Maldives Police Service, on Sunday, began investigations into a policeman reported for sexually abusing two minors.
According to a Police Spokesperson, an issue alleging sexual abuse to a minor was first reported on October 18, 2018. However, the case failed to take wind, as the allegations lacked adequate proof required to proceed further.
A second case involving minor was then reported on March 27, 2019.
Police revealed that the second child was abused prior to the accused's international departure, during a no-pay leave period.
As such, the man had already left the country when the second case was reported.
"The case is being investigated by the Family and Child Protection Department and the Professional Standard Command", said the spokesperson.
In addition, a 19-year-old was arrested on Sunday, following reports of sexually abusing two minors. The High Court has since added a remand period of 12 days for the young man.
