President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has said that no abuse of power that strips the people of their rights will be tolerated in this Government under any circumstance.

He assured this while answering a question in the “President’s Answer” forum presented to inquire the truth behind the rumors that the flats are being distrubited as instructed by a list made by First Lady, Sajida Mohamed.

President Muizzu said that this rumor was spread by some individuals intending to sow discord in the people’s hearts regarding the current government. The President offered the people of the country his unyielding guarantee that no one - be it himself, his wife, a friend, or a State official - can exert influence in a bid to steal the rights of the people.

“No citizen’s rights will be violated. Be it a housing flat or any other type of right, no action that deprives these rights will be allowed. I will not give even the slightest leeway for any such opportunity,” said President Dr Muizzu.

President said all procedures of this government will be conducted fairly and impartially with visible transparency. He added that in the instance that such undue influence is exerted, he will be take the initiative to take immediate action against such persons.

“All these rumours surrounding the list to be released, or any such matter, holds no truth. They are false rumors spread with the intention to sow discord,” he said.

Among the first 4000 recipients of the housing scheme announced during the preceding government’s tenure, 60 percent were found to not meet the eligibility criteria, according to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

With the disclosure of the 4000 recipients of flats constructed in Hulhumale 'by the Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC), many had issued complaints regarding the list. In addition to issuing points without analyzing living conditions, accusations were made that recipients of the flats included people who had submitted false information in their applications. ACC had begun investigating the matter and halted the distribution of flats in accordance with the list in question.

While the Housing Ministry’s ability to make a decision on the flats was impeded due to delays in the ACC’s investigation, the commission had permitted to proceed with the distribution last Thursday. Their instructions directed the Housing Ministry to continue issuing flats after considering some conditions in the procedure.

The ACC has since then revealed details of their findings in the investigation, and stated that the final decision on action to be taken regarding the flat recipients list lies with the Ministry.

Subsequently, the Housing Ministry announced that as of yet, no decision has been made to cancel the recipient list in question. However, they said the ministry would only be making a final decision on the matter after conducting further deliberations with other concerned institutions.
