The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) has said that 59 percent of the individuals listed on the 'Gedhoruveriya' housing scheme flat recipients list do not fulfil the required eligibility criteria.
In a press conference being held currently, ACC has shared the findings of its investigation into complaints received regarding the allocation of flats under the previous government's Gedhoruveriya housing scheme.
ACC revealed that it had investigated 4,048 forms. Findings of their investigations indicate that 59.6 percent of these forms do not meet the necessary criteria to be eligible for flats. This amounts to approximately 2,400 flats.
They further revealed that forms that met the criteria, and did not have any further issues, amounted to 20.7 percent of the sample. Forms that do meet the criteria, but have other issues total 19.7 percent. This is equivalent of approximately 1,600 flats.
ACC further explained what they meant in saying forms that met the criteria, but had other issues.
They said these referred to instances with false information, contradictory information, forms where points were granted against policy in the sections outlining special needs, and other problems regarding the granting of points.
The ACC also said that in the case of some of these forms, it was observed that new documentation was submitted during the complaints period.
The Housing Ministry has been instructed by ACC to refer to five factors in deciding to issue flats.
The Housing Ministry announced on Thursday night that it has commenced deliberations regarding the ACC's decision, saying they will reveal their decision this week. The ministry held a meeting with ACC today seeking further advice.
