Dr Fazeela Waheed was appointed as the Dean of Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS), of the Maldives National University (MNU), on Wednesday.
Fazeela, who obtained her PhD from University of Western Australia in 2016, has also previously filled various positions in MNU.
Speaking at the appointment ceremony held in MNU, Fazeela stated that she would try to increase interest in the field, as more research into the health sector was necessary. She further noted that she would develop ongoing courses, introduce new courses, and improve the overall performance of the faculty.
Dr Fazeela started teaching in the field in 2000, as an assistant tutor in the then Institute of Health Sciences. Although she left MNU in 2011, she later rejoined the university’s Research Center in 2016, where she acted as both researcher and project manager in all the research conducted in Maldives by World Health Organization (WHO).
