A fire broke out in a large waste pile in front of the recently opened petrol station near the bridge leading to Hulhumale phase 2.
While the cause of the fire is still unknown, the entire area is enveloped in thick fumes.
The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Fire and Rescue team has controlled the fire, there is still heavy smoke rising from the area, according to witnesses.
The smoke has spread across a large area, even affecting the ground floor of the nearby Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) residential tower.
