Main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has decided to assist in seeking out state funds "stolen" allegedly by President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom via Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC).

The resolution presented to MDP's Council by Vice President Mohamed Shifaz mandates their presidential candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih (Ibu) to recover MMPRC's embezzled funds, as one of his presidential vows.

The resolution, which was was passed unanimously with 52 votes in favour, states that experts in the field will be brought to investigate the case.

The government has stated that MVR 1.3 billion went missing in the largest corruption scandal in the country to date. However, former Auditor General Ibrahim Niyaz has claimed that the missing money is twice or thrice greater than this amount.

Speaking in favour of this resolution, Ibu said that this is a great initiative by MDP and a very important work that needs to be accomplished.

Ibu called on all the parties in the opposition coalition to cooperate with this new endeavour. He also called on the authorities to publicize any information regarding the case.
