One of the men wanted for vandalizing the walls of Male’ buildings with the “India Out” slogan arrested on Tuesday after he was found hiding in a toilet.

Search for Abdul-Gafaar Abdul-Gafoor, 34, was announced earlier on the same day. He was arrested under court order around 5:10 pm in the evening.

Search for him was announced for allegedly working to the detriment of public interest.

Another man has also been arrested for spraying and damaging former President Abdulla Yameen’s house and the opposition's office.

Last month, the National Security Council declared the opposition's "India Out" movement calling for the deployment of Indian troops in the Maldives as a threat to national security.

In a resolution issued in this regard, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih said that it is clear that the movement meant to incite hatred towards India has become a threat to national security. "It undermines peace and domestic stability in different parts of the country and also undermines regional security," he said.

Police have been taking down banners hung with the "India Out" slogans on them.
