National airline Maldivian’s Director of Flight Operations, Mohamed Ameen, was dismissed from the post Sunday.

Maldivian’s Public Relations Manager Moosa Waseem informed local media Mihaaru that Ameen was stripped of his title based on the counsel of the company board. However, he is still under the company’s employ.

“We followed the board’s advice and this is a step towards restructuring our company”, said Moosa.

Local pilots had called for Ameen's dismissal in February, stating that they would not report for duty while he was in power. Ameen was subsequently distanced from all matters related to the pilots although he retained his position.

The pilots who were on strike resumed duties after Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Aishath Nahula and Island Aviation Services' Managing Director Mihamed Rizvee met and held discussions with them.

The pilots had claimed that Ameen, who had a strong influence during former President Abdulla Yameen Abdula Gayoom’s tenure, was still no less powerful.
