During the recent school post-election at Faafu Atoll Nilandhoo Atoll Education Center, a student whose marks were altered by a leading teacher to lose the election has been suspended from the position.

Two grade 11 students vied for the role of school captain. Allegations of vote tampering led parents to file a complaint with the Ministry of Education. Upon investigation, the Ministry discovered that a teacher had manipulated the students' marks to affect the election's outcome.

Yasir Abdul Nasir, the leading teacher who showed bias between the students, was suspended for one month. Five days later, he resigned from his position as a leading teacher and returned to his duties as a regular teacher.

A relative of the student, who was unfairly denied the position due to the marks tampering, told 'Mihaaru' that the issue was resolved after an investigation team from the Ministry of Education visited the island and conducted their inquiry.

"The teacher claimed the interview time was insufficient and awarded her zero marks. There is no time limit in the rules. The Ministry spoke to the students and confirmed that no time limit was imposed on either candidate. My child's interview wasn't even graded," the parent recounted.

The parent stated that the selection process for the school captain was unjust. After the Ministry's investigation, it was revealed that another student had been wrongfully appointed.

The school had not informed the parents about the situation until the Ministry's investigation uncovered the election rigging.

Although the rightful recipient of the school captain position has been reinstated, she is reluctant to hold the post after the unnecessary commotion.

A family member mentioned that the student was deeply saddened by the teacher's manipulation of marks to influence the election in favor of a specific student.

The school has also previously made errors in selecting the best students in O Level and A Level examinations, which became an issue but was later rectified by the school.
