Presidential candidate of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and People’s National Congress (PNC) Dr. Mohmed Muizzu said on Thursday evening that if he wins the presidential election this year, he will develop three resorts in Faafu atoll Magoodhoo’s lagoon, and ascertain the rent collected reach all the islands in the atoll.

The campaign rally held in Faafu atoll Nilandhoo was attended by residents from Magoodhoo, Feeali, Bileffahi, and Dharanboodhoo.

Dr. Muizzu had proposed all the projects they would carry out in these islands during his term in office.

He said that Magodhoo has a substantial lagoon, and by constructing a resort through reclamation near the island, it could provide a significant economic boost to both the island and the entire atoll.

"So what will happen is that the islands will expand. Our responsibility extends beyond covering costs. We have to come up with initiatives that will benefit the island and the atolls through various economic projects," he said.

"This is something we can achieve from the Magodhoo lagoon."

Dr. Muizzu said that currently, the rent collected from these islands goes to the state. However, he added that by amending the laws and regulations, it would be possible to redirect the income towards the islands themselves.

Dr. Muizzu presented a "list of pledges" to the islands of Faafu Atoll.

His pledges included port development, land acquisition, housing projects, enhancements in health services, expansion of school facilities, construction of multipurpose halls, establishment of football fields, and other sports facilities.
