President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has officially removed Magoodhoo Airport from the island's administrative jurisdiction.

In a recent resolution gazetted by the President's Office, it was declared that the airport area within Magoodhoo Island would no longer fall under the island's jurisdiction. This decision falls within the President's constitutional responsibility to delineate the jurisdiction of city councils and island councils.

In accordance with a common practice, airports across the nation are typically managed by transferring their oversight to designated companies, effectively separating them from the jurisdiction of the island they are situated on.

For the construction of the Magoodhoo Airport, a 30.8-hectare plot was acquired from the island, with the current government entrusting the project to MTCC. An additional 17 hectares of land was procured for other purposes. The state budget saw an expenditure of MVR 207 million for land acquisition and MVR 252 million for the airport's construction.

Magoodhoo Airport's development includes a 1,800-meter-long runway to facilitate private jet landings, as well as provisions for jet parking, a fuel farm, a VIP lounge, and a city hotel within the airport premises.
