Maldives Police Service, on Monday, arrested nine suspects for robbing the council safe of Magoodhoo, Faafu Atoll.
Police spokesperson revealed that nine men between the ages of 23 and 39 were apprehended while attempting to flee Magoodhoo aboard a 'dhoni' and dinghy. Faafu Nilandhoo Court remanded the men for a five-day period during which the police will conduct an investigation into the matter.
The suspects robbed the council office after subduing and tying up the security guard on duty.
Magoodhoo Council President Abdulla Waheed previously stated that the safe contained approximately MVR 2,000. He also revealed that the robbers had caused significant damage to the office furniture.
The Council President stated that the suspects had damaged some documents and all the cupboards in the office beyond use.
