A manager at the Road Development Corporation (RDC) has been arrested for possession of drugs and alcohol.
According to Mihaaru, while Police entered RDC offices for their investigation yesterday, they also conducted a search at an RDC Manager's residence.
It has been learned that empty bottles of alcohol, as well as drugs, were discovered at the residence. Police have so far not commented on the matter.
Police entered RDC premises at 10 am on Tuesday morning, leaving at 11 pm after having seized a large number of documents.
The police are investigating a case brought to their attention by the Financial Intelligence Unit of the Maldives Monetary Authority. Upon commencement of this investigation into the depositing of large amounts of money into the personal accounts of three Financial Department employees, RDC rejected the allegations, claiming the deposits were petty cash funds handled according to the related policies.
RDC Managing Director Moosa Ali Manik has sent messages to the Maldivian Democratic Party's National Council Whatsapp group criticizing Police Commissioner Mohamed Hameed and accusing the police of 'trying to make headlines' by searching the RDC offices.
