Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) Governor Ali Hashim has once again informed of his inability to attend the parliament's Public Accounts Committee meeting scheduled for today on recommending his dismissal from the position of Governor to President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.

Committee Chairman and Maamigili MP Qasim Ibrahim stated that Governor Hashim had informed the committee that he would not be able to attend the Public Accounts Committee meeting today due to health concerns. The committee had scheduled to summon him today after he was unable to attend yesterday's meeting.

MP Qasim suggested holding the committee meeting tomorrow and inviting the Governor again. Members of the committee had supported this suggestion.

Recommending the Governor's dismissal to President Dr Mohamed Muizzu was proposed to the parliament by Deputy Speaker and MP of Dhiggaru Constituency, Ahmed Nazim.

Nazim said that the MMA had failed to carry out its mandate outlined in the Maldives Monetary Authority Act, particularly at this time when the country's economic situation is derailing. He also added that Monetary Policy, which is the foundation of MMA, is not functioning sufficiently.

In response to the allegations, Governor Hashim sent a report to the parliament stating that MMA had provided the necessary information, counsel, and assistance to prevent an economic crisis.

The report indicated that the main reason for the current economic situation and the fear of an economic crisis is the lack of attention to the counsel given by MMA and international financial institutions over the past two years.

Governor Hashim assured that he and MMA would provide full cooperation during this challenging task, stressing the need for the entire state to work together to overcome the economic situation.
