Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has handed over land to the Ministry of Islamic Affairs for the construction of the first mosque in the newly-developed Hulhumalé Phase 3.
According to Housing Development Corporation (HDC), two plots of land have been released to the Islamic Ministry on Monday for the construction of new mosques in Hulhumalé, with one plot located in Phase 2 and the other plot allocated to build the first mosque in Hulhumalé Phase 3.
HDC's Managing Director Fazul Rasheed signed off on the agreement, with Minister Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed signing on behalf of the Ministry of Islamic Affairs.
HDC revealed that 27,290 sq ft of land had been allocated for the construction of mosques in Hulhumalé Phase 2, with 21,952 sq ft of land reserved for the same purpose in Hulhumalé Phase 3.
"The corporation has always been working to provide the services and facilities needed by the population residing in Hulhumalé," assured HDC.
The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has recently awarded a contract for the construction of a mosque at the Hiyaa Flat area in Hulhumalé Phase 2. A new permanent mosque was also opened in Hulhumalé Phase 2 over Ramadan. With this, there are now two permanent and two temporary mosques open to the public in Hulhumalé Phase 2.
