Police have said today that only two out of the five recruits from the Police College in Hithadhoo who were taken to ICU for food poisoning are still receiving treatment, with the others having been released after their condition improved.

A total of 32 recruits were taken to the Addu Equatorial Hospital last night due to food poisoning. Five out them had to be admitted in the Intensive Care Unit, with the condition of one being reported as more serious.

However, this morning Police have stated that only two remain in ICU. All others have been discharged from the hospital.

All the recruits are from the batch scheduled to start their Basic Training on Saturday. Police said last night that they believe the cause of the sickness is food poisoning.

Mihaaru News reports that catering for the Police College is done by a company called Best Selection. The company runs restaurants in both Addu and Male', and also offer catering services.

Addu Equatorial Hospital said last night that the recruits were being treated for an allergy reaction, but said they do not know what caused the reaction.
