South Asian Travel Awards (SATA) accorded top prizes for Summer Island Maldives and Equator Village on Saturday.
At the awards banquet held at Amari Galle Hotel in Galle, Sri Lanka, Summer Island was awarded the titles of 'South Asia's Leading Beach Resort' and 'Leading Beach Resort in Maldives', while Equator Village was declared 'Best Airport Hotel in Maldives'.
Winning the same awards in 2017 and 2018, Summer Island's Resort Manager Mari Shareef stated that "winning this award for the third consecutive year is a recognition of the hard work of the Summer team".
The 4-star Summer Island situated in Kaafu Atoll is one of Maldives' first resorts and remains locally owned. Nestled on the airport island of Gan in the southernmost Atoll of Addu, Equator Village offers visitors unhindered access to the natural beauty of Maldives.
“I am honoured to receive this award on behalf of the Equator Village team”, said the resorts' Manager Mohamed Waheed.
"This award will drive more exposure to Equator Village and Addu, which has so much to offer to travellers”.
SATA is endorsed by tourism organisations across the region, including the Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO), Sri Lankan Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry, the Nepal Tourism Board and the Indian Confederation of Associated Tour Operators, since it's inception in 2016.
