Fenaka Corporation Limited has been fined MVR 4.2 million for carrying out the construction of power plants in 21 islands without completing the procedure to determine environmental impact under the regulations for preparing the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report.
In an announcement, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has directed Fenaka to pay the dues within 30 days from today.
According to the EPA, it has directed the corporation to proceed after completing the procedures mandated by the regulations.
Action has been taken against Fenaka six times in the past for violating the regulation.
The islands where the power plants have been developed without completing the EIA process are Haa Alif atoll Uligam, Haa Alif atoll Utheem, Haa Alif atoll Dhidhdhoo, Haa Alif atoll Muraidhoo, Haa Alif atoll Molhadhoo, Haa Dhaal atoll Finey, Haa Dhaal atoll Kulhudhuffushi, Haa Dhaal atoll Kumundhoo, Baa atoll Feydhoo, Shaviyani atoll Maaungoodhoo, Shaviyani atoll Komandoo, Shaviyani atoll Fodhdhoo, Noonu atoll Kendhikulhudhoo, Raa atoll Rasgetheem, Raa atoll Kinolhas, Lhaviyani atoll Kurendhoo, Dhaal atoll Meedhoo, Laamu atoll Maabaidhoo, Gaaf Dhaalu atoll Maavarulu, Gaaf Dhaal atoll Rathafandhoo, and Gaaf Alif Villingili.
