Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), on Thursday, imposed a fine of MVR 263,000 on Fenaka Corporation Limited for violating due process.

As per a statement released by EPA, Fenaka was fined for failing to acquire the necessary permits in shifting the powerhouse of Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll’s Nadella to a different location.

Fenaka was ordered to pay the fine within a period of one month.

Prior to this, EPA had fined Fenaka on five different occasions for violating the environmental watchdog’s orders.

Last year, Fenaka was fined with MVR 600,000 for greenlighting the construction work of powerhouses in five islands without conducting Environment Impact Assessments (EIA)s.

Fenaka is currently facilitating the establishment of new powerhouses in various islands.
