The government has decided to provide a monthly allowance of MVR 9,000 to the family members of soldiers who lost their lives in the November 3, 1988, coup attempt in Maldives.

According to regulations announced by the Defense Ministry yesterday, parents, children, and widows of the fallen soldiers will be entitled to this allowance.

Additionally, individuals who assisted the military during the offensive will also receive a monthly allowance.

The regulations specify that Huravee Gold Medal recipients will be granted MVR 9,000 per month, Huravee Silver Medal recipients will receive MVR 8,000 per month, and Bravery Color recipients will be awarded MVR 6,000 per month.

The benefit will, however, be discontinued upon the recipient’s death.

At least 19 people, including soldiers and civilians, were killed, and many others were injured in the November 3 attack.

The government had previously been providing a smaller allowance to the families of the martyred soldiers, but President Dr Mohamed Muizzu had earlier pledged to increase this allowance.
