DDcom stated that they intent to complete redacted reports by the 31st of May, as much of the information in the reports are 'highly sensitive and confidential'.
The Presidential Commission on Disappearances and Deaths have since released a statement in response to the call from Civil Society Organizations asking them to publicly disclose the findings of their investigations into the 25 to 27 cases they have investigated over the years.
DDCom singled out the families of murdered blogger Yameen Rasheed and forcibly disappeared journalist Ahmed Rilwan and began their statement with, " [DDCom] is aware that the families of Ahmed Rilwan Abdullah and Yameen Rasheed are keen to access the official reports the Commission has completed into the cases".
DDcom stated that they intent to complete redacted reports by the 31st of May, as much of the information in the reports are 'highly sensitive and confidential'.
They state that while they will present the reports to the President in accordance with the Presidential Commission's Act, they are working to complete the redacted reports so that the the families of victims can access important information about the cases.
DDCom further added that they would recommend to the President that the redacted reports are released to the larger public.
"The Commission recognizes that it was set up because former President Solih considered that certain murders and disappearances were not adequately investigated and justice was not delivered due to failures of established institutions.
In view of this the Commission is very keen to be fully transparent and also highlight the exceptional and extensive lengths the Commission, and partner agencies including international ones, have gone to deliver on the Commission’s mandate to conduct independent, impartial and credible investigations," the statement reads.
The Commission went on to highlight that it has prioritized regularly meeting with the families of Rilwan and Yameen, and communicated developments in a timely manner, as well as ensuring Commission members were available for meetings on request.
DDCom was established during the administration of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih in November, 2018.
