MTCC awarded contracts to develop airports in five islands

MTCC was awarded the contracts to develop airports in five islands at a signing ceremony held on Wednesday.

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has been awarded the contracts to develop airports in the islands of Shaviyani atoll Milandhoo, Shaviyani atoll Bilehfahi, Shaviyani atoll Komandoo, Thaa atoll Guraidhoo and Thaa atoll Vilufushi.

Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure announced that the contracts had been awarded to MTCC to conduct surveys, design and conducting environmental impact assessments for the development of airports on five islands. Separate signing ceremonies were held on Wednesday to assign the projects to MTCC.

State Minister Ibrahim Nazeem signed the agreement for the Sh. Komandoo Airport development project on behalf of the ministry, with Deputy Managing Director Hassan Mughunee signing on behalf of MTCC.

The ceremony was attended by Komandoo Council President Mohamed Sinaan and other government officials.

The agreement to handover the Th. Guraidhoo Airport development project was signed by Minister of Construction Dr Abdulla Muththalib, with Management Officer Ahmed Latheef signing on behalf of MTCC.

President of the Guraidhoo Island Council Ali Rasheed and other government officials were also in attendance at the signing ceremony. Invitees included officials of the Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure and MTCC staff.

Further details regarding the five airport-projects have not been announced by the ministry or MTCC.

The construction of airports in Milandhoo, Komandoo, Guraidhoo and Vilufushi are major campaign pledges made by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu prior to the presidential election.
