Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed, Managing Director of HDC, has announced that the construction of 15 parking buildings in Hulhumale' will commence soon to alleviate the parking issues in the Greater Male' area.

Expanding parking facilities in Male' was one of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's key pledges for his first 100 days in office, which included the construction of parking structures. However, due to budget limitations and technical challenges, these projects have been delayed beyond the initial timeframe.

Speaking at a press conference organized by the Ministry of Transport, Police, Male' City Council, and HDC, Fazul revealed that approximately 15 parking buildings will be developed as part of the Hulhumale' development plan.

"Roughly speaking, I can say that around 4,000 parking spaces will be made available in the near future," he said.

Fazul explained that these parking buildings would offer a permanent solution for vehicle parking and that the project would be carried out on a commercial basis. He also mentioned that the project would be announced within the next three months.

Additionally, he noted that specific areas within Hulhumale's inner streets will be designated for paid parking, catering to those who need it. The MD emphasized that parking opportunities will be provided through various models, both paid and unpaid.

During former President Abdullah Yameen's administration, mechanical parking systems were introduced to address parking issues in Male' and Hulhumale'. However, these systems have since rusted due to lack of use.
