The Indian Ocean Commission announced to extend the application deadline for its 'Blue Champion Award', from October 20 to November 4.

The commission announced the new award, under its World Bank-funded Second South-West Indian Ocean Fisheries Governance and Shared Growth Project (SWIOFish2), in September this year.

The first edition of the Blue Champion Award is open to entrepreneurs aged 18 to 40, who hail from Cabo Verde, Comoros, Guinea Bissau, Madagascar, Maldives, Mauritius, Reunion Island and Seychelles as well as São Tome and Principe.

According to the commission, applicants must operate a company or have a concept that complies with the principles of circular economy and contribute to the reduction of marine plastic pollution.

Awards will be given under the categories 'Best Ocean Entrepreneur' and 'Best Innovative Concept'.

The Blue Champion Award is supported by Eco Austral, Entreprendre au féminin ocean Indien (EFOI), Mauritius Junior Chamber International (JCI), the SIDS Youth Aim Hub (SYAH) and Synergie Jeunes as well as the Union of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of the Indian Ocean (UCCIOI).
