Minister for National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Mohamed Aslam has stated that his recent visit to Addu City has helped to accelerate ongoing development projects in the area.

The minister moved to Addu City temporarily on February 11 to address issues related to road development and other projects.

Answering a question by Hithadhoo Central MP Ahmed Rasheed, Aslam said that solutions to the project development issues have been found through his efforts in Addu City.

“I believe the pace of work is also improving." -- minister Aslam.

While the minister did not provide any specific details, he said that he has personally observed the works in Addu City and has implemented resolutions to address the problems.

Addu residents expressed discontent over the road construction work, with issues ranging from potholes on the road, causing damage to people’s vehicles and, occasionally, injuring people too due to the long unfinished work after excavation of the roads.

Afcons Infrastructure was awarded the project to develop 107 kilometres of road in Addu City on February 2021. They were given two years to complete the project. It is funded by a MVR 800 million line of credit provided by India’s Exim Bank, of which MVR 1.2 million was allocated for the project.
