Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has introduced digitalized driving license for land vehicles.

At a press conference held on Sunday night to launch the digital license, the ministry presented information on how to use the service via its new Savaaree Information Management System (SIMS).

The transport ministry said that people can view and download their licenses through the "eFaas" portal. "eFaas" is the national digital identity service which allows users to establish and verify their identity digitally both in-person and online. Licensing services can also be requested online.

Even if an individual does not have a physical license card, their digital licenses which can be viewed from the police mobile app "Police Mv", will be accepted.

Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Aishath Nahula said that with launch of the digital license service, license cards will not be issued in print unless absolutely necessary. For those who find it difficult to use smart phones, there will be the option of printing the license, she said.

The ministry also said that individuals who wish to keep their license cards will be able to print them.

The ministry temporarily suspended all licensing services from January 29 to February 4 in order to introduce digital licenses. The transition to the new software was made in order to improve the quality of services provided by the Ministry of Transport.

Licensing services have been resumed with the introduction of the new software.
