The Indian Minister of External Affairs Dr S.Subrahmanyam Jaishankar Saturday arrived in Maldives on an official visit.
Upon his arrival, the minister was welcomed at Velana International Airport (VIA) by Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Khaleel, Foreign Secretary Abdul Gafoor Mohamed and High Commissioner of Maldives to India Dr Hussain Niyaaz.
This marks the second time Dr Jaishankar is visiting Maldives since he took office.
During this visit, he is scheduled to meet President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed, Minister Shahid and Minister of Defence Mariya Ahmed Didi.
Additionally, a joint meeting will be held with the Minister of Finance Ibrahim Ameer, the Minister of Economic Development Fayyaz Ismail, and the Minister of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Mohamed Aslam.
According to the Foreign Ministry, Dr Jaishankar will inaugurate some projects undertaken with Indian grant assistance and witness the exchange of several Agreements and MoUs between two countries.
The Minister of External Affairs is visiting the Maldives on the invitation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs. His first visit to Maldives was to attend the fifth Indian Ocean Conference in September 2019.
