Company employees not involved in theft: Ensis

Ensis Fisheries company declares company staff were not involved in the MVR 2.7 million robbery that took place in July.

The statement issued on Thursday by Managing Director Mohamed Waseem responded to claims that of the arrests made in connection to the case, two had been employees at Ensis.

The two men referred to, were identified as an expatriate who worked as a security officer and a local.

Local media Mihaaru,had previously reported that the two men were employed at Ensis. However, exact details of the alleged connection between the men and the robbery were not revealed.

Currently, a total of eleven arrests have been made in connection with the robbery.

The latest of these arrests occurred on September 6 and included the apprehension of a man found in possession of more than MVR 600,000.

The robbery took place on July 31, while the money was being loaded into a company van after withdrawal from the Mauritius Commercial Bank branch in Hulhumale.

According to Ensis, the money was snatched by two masked men on a motorbike.
