It has surfaced that two of six people, who were arrested in connection to MVR 2.7 million robbed from Ensis Fisheries, are company employees.

Local media outlet Mihaaru cited credible sources that the two staff in question are a local and expatriate, one of whom is a security officer at Ensis.

The exact connection between the two employees and the robbery is still unclear.

The other four individuals arrested in the case are accused of being actively involved in robbing the money. The two motorbikes they used have been impounded by the police.

The money was stolen on July 31 while an employee of Ensis, one of the biggest fish exporters in Maldives, was getting in the company's van after withdrawing money from the Mauritius Commercial Bank branch in reclaimed suburb Hulhumale. According to Ensis, the money was snatched by two men on a motorbike.

According to the police, the six suspects were arrested on the same day and the Criminal Court has remanded them for 15 days.

Ensis further reported that since the men's faces were uncovered and the area has CCTV cameras, the men would have been spotted in the surveillance footage.
