Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid arrived on Thursday in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, to attend the 46th Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

The Minister was received at the airport by the Ambassador of the Maldives to the United Arab Emirates Dr Hussain Niyaaz and other officials from the Maldives Embassy.

During the OIC meeting, Minister Shahid will deliver a national statement briefing the Member States on the recent political and democratic achievements in the Maldives, as well as outlining Maldives’ perspective on key issues affecting the Muslim community.

The Foreign Minister is accompanied by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Humayd, Additional Secretary Javed Faizal and Communications Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Miuvaan Mohamed.

Maldives became a member of the OIC in 1976, and has since actively participated in its activities and meetings. Comprising mainly of Muslim-majority countries, the organization presently has 57 Member States.
