MTCC awarded MVR 29 million project to expand Maafaru Airport apron

MTCC will be developing Maafaru Airport's apron expansion at a cost of MVR 29.85 million.

Island Aviation Services Limited (IASL) today handed over a MVR 29.85 million project to expand Maafaru Airport apron to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC)

A special signing ceremony was held where MTCC's CEO Abdulla Ziyad and Island Aviation's Managing Director Ibrahim Iyas signed the agreement.

As per the agreement, MTCC is required to demolish the 453-square-meter fire road, remove the top layer of soil across 18,660 square meters, prepare a sub-base, and lay a wearing course there. Additionally, they also have to grade and compact 4,047 square meters of land and develop an air field lighting system.

The total value of this project is MVR 29.85 million and is scheduled to be completed within 180 days.

MTCC said that the apron expansion will further modernise the services of Maafaru Airport and that it would further increase employment opportunities as well.

The apron expansion would also provide more parking space for private jets and therefore, increase the number of private jets landing at the airport, said MTCC. This would increase the number of tourists coming to the area would boost the airport's revenue through jet parking fees, they added.
