The Managing Director of Agro National Corporation (AgroNAT), Haroon Rasheed, has been dismissed from his post.
Haroon was appointed to the position in 2020. He was informed of his dismissal on Thursday.
During the Maldivian Democratic Party's (MDP) presidential primary held in January, Haroon was one of the government leaders that openly supported MDP's President and Parliament Speaker, Mohamed Nasheed, who competed against President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
The President's Office has begun sacking senior MDP members in the government who openly defied President Solih and expressed support for former president and Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed's faction within MDP, indicating a growing rivalry within the party ahead of the election.
Earlier this week, State Trading Organisation (STO) Managing Director Hussain Amr was dismissed from his post; yesterday, Minister at the President's Office Mohamed Shifaz was removed from his post, too. Both of these MDP members are avid supporters of Nasheed and campaigned for him in the MDP's presidential primary held in January.
The presidential election has been scheduled for September 9.
