The government has spent MVR 300 million on frontline allowance for those participating in special Covid-19 operations.

According to the statistics released by the Finance Ministry, the highest amount of frontline allowance was paid to employees of the Health Ministry, amounting to MVR 138 million, followed by MVR 48 million spent on Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) employees and MVR 44 million spent on Maldives Police Service employees.

Frontline allowances have also been paid to employees of Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), Hulhumale' Hospital and Planning Ministry.

Frontline allowance was paid from March 7, 2020 until last March when health emergency was lifted. The allowance is divided into three categories; MVR 500 per day as "high risk" category allowance, MVR 250 per month for those working in medium risk category and an allowance of MVR 200 per day for low risk workers.

The state has spent MVR 4.1 billion so far as Covid expenses, from which MVR 2.3 billion was spent on health and MVR 1.7 billion as business aid.
