Health Emergency Operations Centre (HEOC), on Sunday, asserted that no severe cases of health complications have yet been recorded in Maldives due to the COVID-19 vaccine being administered in the country.

Speaking at a press conference held by HEOC, the centre’s Spokesperson Dr Nazla Rafeeq stated that, so far, only mild reactions have been observed due to inoculation, such as fever and body aches.

“[We] are seeing [such cases] rarely. We will announce the details and numbers in the next press conference. However, we have not yet identified any case which required hospitalisation”, Dr Nazla said.

She added that vaccination centres are fully equipped to deal with similar symptoms exhibited following the shot.

According to her, individuals who fit the vaccination criteria will be inoculated at vaccination centres even if they had not pre-registered to receive the vaccine.

Nevertheless, Dr Nazla requested the public to be fully prepared for vaccination, and urged everyone to register beforehand.

She also stressed on the importance of adhering to safety measures following vaccination, since a notable time frame is required to produce the antibodies upon inoculation.

Till date, over 9,700 people have been vaccinated in Maldives. In addition to capital Male’, vaccination is underway in Haa Dhaalu Atoll’s Kulhudhuffushi and Addu Atoll.
