Dubai-based airline Emirates announced special fares between Mexico City and Velana International Airport (VIA), Maldives.

According to Emirates, the promotional rates will be available from December 8, when the airline commences flights to Maldives via Barcelona in Spain.

Additionally, passengers can travel up to August 31, 2020, with bookings made between October 15, 2019, to November 4, 2019.

The special introductory fares start at USD 2,438 (approximately MVR 37,594 at current exchange rates) for an Economy Class return ticket from VIA to Mexico City.

Emirates Skywards, the airline’s award-winning frequent flyer programme, has a Cash+Miles offer when booking online. With this option, travellers can pay a part of the ticket with their accumulated Skywards Miles and the balance in cash.

Also, passengers will earn double Skywards Miles for bookings to Mexico before December 8, 2019.

Area Manager of Emirates for Sri Lanka and Maldives, Chandana de Silva stated, “Mexico is one of the most vibrant, colourful and culturally intriguing destinations in the world".

“It has, however, not been well-connected to the Maldives in terms of flights, and the launch of Emirates services via Barcelona not only makes the destination more accessible, it also offers a great opportunity to experience multiple destinations – Dubai, Barcelona and Mexico City – in one trip for those who have the time for stopovers”.

Under this promotion, Emirates also unveiled a special introductory Business Class fare starting at USD 5,274 (MVR 81,325). This fare is also valid throughout the duration of the promotion.

Commencing on December 9, 2019, Emirates flight EK255 will depart from Dubai at 0330 hrs local time, arriving in Barcelona at 0800 hrs before departing again at 0955 hrs and arriving in Mexico City at 1615 hrs on the same day.

For this destination, Emirates will use their new Boeing 777-200LR with a two-class configuration. The aircraft features 38 Business Class seats in a 2-2-2 configuration and 264 seats in Economy Class.

Passengers will be served by an international crew and meals prepared by gourmet chefs. Additionally, for inflight entertainment, over 4,000 channels of movies, tv programmes, music and podcasts are available.

Emirates has operated to Maldives for over 32 years. In this period, the airline has played a significant role in the growth of the tourism industry by connecting Malé with a global network of destinations via Dubai.

Currently, the airline operates three flights a day from VIA to Dubai and daily flights to Colombo, with plans to increase to four flights a day between Male and Dubai from October 27, 2019, to March 28, 2020, in accordance with winter schedules.
