Blind brother of former President Solih leads mother’s funeral prayer

Blind brother of former president Ibrahim Mohamed Solih Moosa Mohamed Solih (Moosabe) has led the funeral prayer of their mother, Moomina, last night.

The mother of 13 passed away yesterday morning while seeking treatment at ADK Hospital after being unwell for some time. Her funeral was held at the Islamic Centre after Maghrib prayer last night.

While it is customary for the Imam of the Islamic Centre to lead funeral prayers held there, Moomina’s funeral prayer was lead by her son Moosa.

Moosa, who is also an Imam himself at the main mosque of Hinnavaru island, is a Hafiz of the Qur’an, meaning he knows the entire book by heart.

In a previous interview with local media outlet Mihaaru, Moosa said that he learned the entire Qur’an by heart via Care Society’s special Qur’an classes for blind students, the classes at Mauhadh, as well as self learning from tape recorded recitations.

Along with Moosa, Moomina’s two other children are also Hafizs of the Qur’an.

While many government officials and long term government employees participated in the funeral prayer, former president Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and Moomina’s other sons were at the front row.

Along with former president Solih, Moomina is also the mother of former Hulhumalé MP Ali Niyaz, Majeediyya School’s Principal Aishath Mohamed and long term Personal Secretary of the President at the President’s Office Fathimath Mohamed Solih.
