Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has once again ordered that cafe's and takeaway shops refrain from placing tables and chairs on the pavements of Hulhumalé streets.

HDC in a statement today, said that cafe's and takeaway shops in various parts of Hulhumale' have been placing chairs and tables on the pavements. This practice, according to HDC, has caused public disturbances and inconveniences.

HDC highlighted that businesses operating by placing tables and chairs on pavements and in empty hedge areas have led to various issues. One significant concern is customers smoking near these tables and chairs, particularly in areas close to schools, making it difficult for pedestrians.

HDC stated that conducting business in this manner is not allowed and has asked businesses to remove the tables and chairs from pavements. The statement also said that action will be taken against those who do not comply with the notice.
