Antibody test on 'COVID recovered' foreign teachers

Education Minister Dr. Aishath Ali said that foreign teachers that contracted COVID-19 while out of the county are required to do antibody tests when they return to Maldives.

In a press conference held by the Education Ministry on Sunday, Minister said that some teachers reported that they had contracted COVID when they were abroad. She said the number of teachers that has caught COVID was very low.

Some teachers sent in the COVID positive result quite close to when the academic year starts. As this raises concerns, Education Ministry has decided to run antibody tests on them when they return.

Presence of antibodies will confirm whether they contracted COVID.

The academic new year starts on Tuesday after a six week break for the school holidays.

Deputy Minister at Education Ministry, Ahmed Mujahid said the ministry has enough teachers to continue teaching without pausing despite the fact that some teachers are quarantining after returning to Maldives. He further said the ministry was looking to increase the amount of teachers in the workforce.
