The Maldives Qualification Authority (MQA) has urged employers and higher education providers to be vigilant against fake certificates indicating studies completed in educational institutes in the Maldives.
In a statement, MQA said that on September 1, 2016, the recognition stamp on local certificates issued by registered higher education institutions in the Maldives was discontinued.
However, it has come to the authority's attention that fake certificates with identification stamps and employee signatures are being used.
The use of fake certificates infringes on the rights of employees working and raises questions among the public about the efforts being made by the authority to ensure higher education and training standards, the statement said.
"The authority strongly urges higher education providers and employers to pay attention to such issues," the statement said.
In a statement condemning the incident, MQA mentioned that it was in the process of approaching the authorities to look into the matter.
