President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has taken several decisions to address the grievance received from education sector employees regarding changes in the pay structure of the Health Sector and the criteria for compensation in case of dismissal.

According to Spokesperson at the President's Office, Miuvaan Mohamed, said adjustments have been made following the alteration in the health sector's salary structure. Medical officers will now receive attendance allowances for working on holidays, effectively addressing their previous concerns.

In response to a petition from nurses employed at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) concerning modifications to the pay structure, President Solih has decided to grant attendance allowances to nurses working on official holidays. Additionally, non-clinical nurses working in healthcare facilities will be transitioned into clinical nurses.

President Solih has assured that nurses maintaining their existing job duties will not experience a reduction in their positions. A grace period has been extended until 2026 for nurses granted study periods in 2018, and issues faced by nine nurses transitioning to the new structure will be resolved.

President Solih has also responded to a petition signed by 862 academics and teachers concerning the criteria for retirement compensation established in May of last year.

The time frame specified in clause 7(a) of the Eligibility Criteria for Compensation has been extended until January 2024. This clause states that an employee may opt for compensation at the time of termination within a maximum period of 18 months from their conversion to the state pay framework.

These decisions were made after extensive consultations with various stakeholders in these sectors, and they reflect president Solih's commitment to addressing the challenges faced by doctors, nurses, teachers, and professionals in the education sector.

Miuvaan affirmed that these measures will effectively resolve the issues experienced by professionals in the healthcare and education sectors.
