IUM's International Research Conference to be held this month

The Islamic University of Maldives (IUM) will hold its annual International Conference on Intellectual Advancement (ICIA) on 17 and 18 September at the university.

The conference, held annually since 2016 with the aim of building a society that loves to share knowledge and learn, was hosted as a hybrid event for the past two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

This year's conference will be attended by scholars from the Maldives and abroad, with submission of research papers on religion, economics, society, health, media and politics. There will also be a panel discussion.

The seventh edition of the conference will feature three very special keynote addresses, including former President of the Islamic University of Malaysia and current Chairman of the Central Bank of Malaysia's Sharia Advisory Council; Dr. Mohd Daud Bakar.

In addition, the founder and former president of the University of Science and Technology in Yemen, Professor Dr. Dawood Abdulmalek and Director General of Islamic Research Institute, International Islamic University of Pakistan, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq will also deliver the keynote.

Research papers will be presented at the conference on four main themes.

The first theme is Social Sciences, Humanities and Education. Its sub-themes are Education and Curriculum, Culture and Heritage, Linguistics, Literature and Language, Media and Mass Communication, Health and Nursing and Social Work, Politics and Diplomacy, International Relations and Human Rights and Democracy.

The main theme on Quranic Studies, Sharia and Law includes sub-themes of Islamic Law and International Law, Quranic Studies, Contemporary Issues in Islamic World and Leadership of the Prophet.

The theme on Tourism, Environment and Technology, include sub-themes of paper presentation on Halal Tourism, Climate Change, Sustainable Development and Information Communication Technology.

Management, business, economics, accounting, finance and banking will include sub-themes of Islamic Finance, Human Resource Management, Public Administration and Management, Capital Market and Marketing and Branding.

In addition, papers will be presented on the affect of Covid-19 on various fields.

The opportunity to submit research papers and participate in the conference has now been expired. Based off the number of participants, the number of papers submitted and the fields, this will be one of the largest international research conferences ever held in the Maldives.
