World Bank to open office in Maldives

World Bank is set to open one of its office branches in Maldives.

The agreement for the office's establishment was signed during the World Bank Annual Meetings held from October 18 to 20 in Washington DC, United States.

Minister of Finance Ahmed Ameer signed the agreement on behalf of the Maldivian government while World Bank's South Asia Region's Vice President Hartwig Scheffer signed on the bank's behalf.

With the opening of the office, World Bank's operations will be carried out in Maldives.

During the World Bank Annual Meetings, Minister Ameer spoke of reducing plastic from the oceans of South Asia.

The Finance Minister took part in the meetings as the Governor to Maldives appointed by the bank.
