Managing Director of Hulhumale Development Corporation (HDC), Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed has stated on Wednesday night that land plots distributed unlawfully during the former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s administration and hence, will be retrieved.

Speaking at a ceremony held in Vaavu atoll Fulidhoo on Wednesday to facilitate President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s address of the residential community, Fazul stated that the allocated land plots were investigated due to concerns of the people.

He stated that the investigation had revealed that 50 companies were unlawfully allocated land plots in Hulhumale.

“I assuredly declare that lands from Phase 1, Phase 2 and Phase 3 were allocated unlawfully. Within these efforts, we will take back the people’s property for the people,” Fazul had said.

He had further ascertained that these unlawfully allocated land plots will be reclaimed within the procedures determined by the law.

Fazul had recalled the pressure he had received regarding his previous announcements about the land plots that were allocated unlawfully.

However, he had assured that he will proceed voicing these concerns regardless of the pressure put on him through divulging his personal information on social media.

Fazul had expressed disapproval regarding the lands allocated through the former government's “Binveriya” housing scheme as well. While concerns have surfaced regarding the delay in delivering the land registration to their allocated recipients, Fazul had asserted that the delay was caused due to the distribution of lands from areas currently covered in soil and granite piles.

He had further assured these areas will be cleared and the allocation of these lands will be commenced soon.

Procedures highlighted by Fazul

- A mandate was passed over HDC to implement housing arrangements for the 203 recipients of the Sea Life Global housing units. HDC board has passed to provide housing for these recipients through the Vinares Flats and the approximately 60 Hiya Flats remaining.

- There are individuals who have purchased flats through Sea Life Global, JAUSA Investments, JAAH Investments and K-Park Residence. Due to failure to conclude these works, the former government had attempted to provide JAAH Investments with HDC’s funds to resolve the situation.

- 35 land plots from Thilafushi were allocated unlawfully under claims of temporary issuance.

- Issuance of land plots for recipients allocated lands through the “Binveriya” scheme is ongoing. However, requests have been made to establish borders within the areas facilitated with water and sewerage. This issue will be resolved and efforts to proceed allocation of lands will commence.

Fazul had remarked that HDC has incurred many damages over the last five years and revealed that the company has a debt of MVR 10 billion presently as well.

He had further stated that a payment of MVR 800 million owed to HDC remains unsettled and that the company had made no efforts to claim this payment during the past five years.
