Governing party has taken disciplinary action against a total of five MPs who went against the party's whip over the dismissal of High Court Justice Abdulla Hameed.

The ruling party's decision was recently confirmed by its parliamentary group leader, North-Hithadhoo MP Mohamed Aslam.

According to Aslam, the party took the first line of disciplinary action against the members for going against Maldivian Democratic Party's (MDP) three-line whip.

The members include;

- Adam Ali (South-Maafannu MP)

- Abdulla Saneef (South-Thinadhoo MP)

- Hassan Afeef (Vilufushi MP)

- Mohamed Rasheed (North-Fuvahmulah MP)

- Abdulla Shaheem Abdul Hakeem (Kanditheemu MP)

First time offense for going against MDP's three-line whip constitutes advising the members who committed an offense.

Repetitive behavior constitutes for equivalent intensification of the disciplinary action such as urging members to apologize for their offenses for a second time offense and discontinuation of party allowances for a third time offense.

Offensive behavior for a fifth time constitutes for the complete dismissal of the members from party.

The governing party issued and approved its whip for the removal of Justice Abdulla Hameed along with Justice Abdul Rauf Ibrahim after the Judiciary Committee of Maldives Parliament moved to revoke the decision of their dismissal.

The five members in question had supported the decision of Judiciary Committee against the party's whip.

MDP Parliamentary Group leader confirms that the voting for dismissal of Justice Abdulla Hameed in accordance with Article 154(b) of the Maldives Constitution, was asked on June 1 where the members in question had cast their votes in favor of the Judiciary Committee's decision.

Governing party's regulations dictate that all parliamentary members must abide to its three-line whips, while failure to attend for sessions where voting in line with whips are on agenda will subject for penalization unless the members acquire permission on prior.

This also marks the first time such a disciplinary decision from a party against its members for rejecting whips, has been publicized.

The decision comes at a time when a total of 18 MDP members along with Deputy Speaker Ms. Eva Abdulla on Monday had declared on their stance against ruling party's three-line whips.

Deputy Speaker on her decision to reject party whips declared that such conduct will persist should the party release three-line whips without granting parliamentary members room for discourse.

However, MDP parliamentary group leader declared that such conduct from the members will not be tolerated, while further affirming strict measures will be taken against those who commit such offenses.
