North-Hithadhoo constituency lawmaker Mr. Mohamed Aslam affirms that the rivalry between two of the factions during the Maldivian Democratic Party Chairperson election has dissipated completely.

Moreover, the lawmaker claimed that the members of the party have put aside their differences and are committed to working together.

Meanwhile, the ruling MDP is currently split into two factions with one led by Maldives President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and the other led by Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed.

The rivalry had intensified during campaigning where each of the rival factions placed heavy lambaste on the other while serious allegations were exchanged.

However, the party's internal situation has since de-escalated after Minister of Economic Development Fayyaz Ismail was recently elected as the party's Chairperson.

Following Ismail's victory, both his rival North-Maafannu MP Imthiyaz Fahmy and Nasheed, who indirectly endorsed Fahmy had publicly congratulated the new Chairperson while affirming support and cooperation.

Though MP Aslam claims of dissipating tensions within the factions of ruling party, it was visible that some of the ruling party members had voted against the party's whip, following suit of opposing Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM).

Furthermore, Aslam emphasized on the importance of improving cooperation and work conduct within MDP's parliamentary group.
