Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that no Maldivians were affected in the earthquake that rocked Philippines on Monday.

A large number of Maldivians are pursuing studies in Philippines.

According to Foreign Ministry, they were in contact with locals residing in Manila, and assured that the situation in Philippines was being monitored closely.

Moreover, Foreign Ministry urged Maldivians to contact Honourary Consul on +6328261883 or the Ministry hotline +9607983400, should an emergency arise.

A strong 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck the Philippines island of Luzon on Monday afternoon, according to a US Geological Survey.

The Philippines is part of the Pacific "Ring of Fire", an arc of intense seismic activity that stretches from quake-prone Japan through Southeast Asia and across the Pacific basin.
