President Muizzu congratulating Trump in a post on X last night said "I wish you wisdom and resolve as you take the helm at a time when the world is engulfed in dire turmoil and uncertainty."
President Muizzu added that Maldives looks forward to working with the new administration of United States to advance shared goals for global peace and elevate their long-standing mutually beneficial bilateral partnership during this term.
Trump is the first President since 1890 to be sworn in for a second term after losing a presidential election.
Trump's swearing-in ceremony was attended by former US presidents, heads of state, business leaders and several heads of state.
In his inaugural speech, Trump declared that he had begun the process of rebuilding the country as part of his campaign promises under the "America First" policy. He vowed to immediately secure the US borders and deport foreign "criminals" living in the country illegally. "January 20, 2025 is America's Independence Day," Trump said.
