Through multiple collaborative counter narcotics operations run by Maldives Police Service And Maldives Customs Service over the past three days, drugs with a street value of MVR 21.6 million (USD 1.3 million) have been seized.

Minster for Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusan posted about the operations on social media X on Wednesday.

In the post, he revealed that 16.69 kg of drugs had been seized.

"Under the leadership of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, we are aiming for a drug free Maldives," the Minister posted, along with a note of appreciation for the work of the Police and Customs officers.

Police have not revealed any further details of these operations yet.

Earlier this week, police have arrested two individuals carrying what is believed to be drugs on Majeedhee Magu, believed to be with the intent to sell.

An eye witness told Mihaaru that two men had come on a motorcycle with a wrapped package and stopped near the Male' Grand (Arabiyya) Flats. Police had followed and detained them here.

Police proceeded to open the package the men had in their position, which was found to contain a large number of small packets containing what was suspected to be drugs.

With the police having been in plain clothes, it is believed that this was an undercover operation.
