Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has taken over the protection of the beach in the dredged area under the Meemu atoll Dhiggaru Land Expansion Project.
MTCC CEO Adam Azim signed the agreement on behalf of the company at a ceremony held yesterday. Planning Ministry's Permanent Secretary Zeeniya Hameed signed on behalf of the government.
According to MTCC, the project will involve the installation of Geotube revetment in an area of 1470 meters.
MTCC has been awarded the project to be completed within seven months. The project costs MVR 17.2 million.
Dhiggaru has always been subject to severe damages caused by floods. MTCC completed the MVR 121.8 million shore protection project last month to solve the problem.
Under the project, 25 hectares were dredged, outer canals laid and revetment was installed.
