Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) has announced on Thursday that they will resume administering Pfizer vaccines to children between the ages of 12 and 17, and people that have major medical problems this month.
In a media briefing by the center, HEOC’s spokesperson Dr. Nazla Rafeeq said they will administer the Pfizer vaccine to children above 12 and people with poor immune systems. This includes people fighting cancer, or people that have undergone organ transplants.
She said HEOC is working with the Education Ministry to vaccinate children. The children will be taken to vaccination centers to get inoculated.
This program will be started on administrative islands a short while after it begins in the Greater Male’ Area.
Pregnant women that have received one dose of Covishield or no doses so far will be given the Pfizer vaccine, Dr. Nazla said.
However, HEOC does not know when Maldives will receive the next shipment of Pfizer vaccines. More information on this matter will be announced next week.
Maldives has been administering four types of vaccines to inoculate its population. Currently, as there is a lack of Pfizer vaccines, Sinopharm, Covishield and AstraZeneca are being administered. thank
